LIFE IS LIKE A FIGHT
but it’s okay.
a sophisticated battle is
pretty much one of my favorite things to watch and maybe even do with a lot of padding.
Thanks to hanging around dynamic adults all of my life, I’ve watched a healthy dose of kung fu flicks. As my mind progressed, I also began to realize the bigger spectrum involving karate'nem and why its participants are called martial artists.
With that being said, I would suggest you all read Bruce Lee’s book Tao of Jeet Kune Do; its like one of those books you should be proud to have on your book shelf.
So with all of this being said, I found an article on an MMA site that extracts 7 principles taught by the man himself. While I was reading it, I searched for any irony in its tone, like, Do they know this is kind of like a self-help article for life here? But no, it was an MMA website, and I think they’re just thinking about beating axs. Being who I am though, I read it a whole other way:
1. Drilling is the Best way to Improve
What do you want to excel in? Do it all the time. Be weird about it. I remember the first time I used a DAW (fruity loops)… I was like son…you gotta be a spaceship engineer to use this. I just watched a baby take her first two steps and eat it a month or so ago… now she knows that if you shoot one arm out you can speed up really fast and away from whoever is telling you to come back. Drilling helps you get better at things without even thinking about it.
2. Always Train With a Beginner’s Mind
What are you the best in? On your first day did you pretty much ignore everything about the instructions until it got to the part where you are the Unparalleled Master at it? No, you cared about everything involving it; it wasn’t a task, you drank it all in. You probably are full of small and random facts about this thing you are really good at. Staying inquisitive gives you access to all of those fine details that make you The Best.
3. Never Say Never
“If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.” - B.Lee
Your brain conceived a thing. That means it can exist. You may have a very slight to no idea of how you will accomplish this thing that your brain decided to walk in with, but here you are, and now you’ve got some work to do. And you got this. Plus, you'll do it again with something else.
There are four more principles that this article covers, feel free to check it out.
Meantime, make some art, be some art and if you have something to do, stop tripping and start. we love you.
i very literally create these playlists to listen to as i write each post. seems only right to share.
